Lila is an approximately 6 year old border collie/lab/husky mix. She is black with one blue and one brown eye and the classic “up curl” tail that border collies have. She’s an extremely beautiful/handsome dog with a strong stature but warm eyes. She is extremely smart, sometimes I think smarter than her own good.
Background: Lila was the “street dog” in central CA, an elder man was feeding her when he noticed she was pregnant. A shelter took her in, delivered the puppies, when Lila had an emergency hysterectomy, and recovered well.
Eating habits: she eats twice a day, nothing special, organic kibble from Costco. Every now and then I’ll mix in some shredded chicken or broth. She *loves* treats and is highly motivated by treats.
Behavior: she’s leery of children, strangers, but as loyal as they come to her owner and to those she is familiar with. She craves attention, affirmation, and security. She’s an excellent guard dog - meaning she will bark at intruders, strangers who are approaching your property or door, but she never barks at me, anyone she knows, etc. Lila is dominant and her hackles stand up when meeting other dogs but I believe this is due to social anxiety and not having a lot of animal interaction. She’s great with cats and previously lived with two cats (as well as two other dogs, a geriatric female German Shepard, and one of her own from her litter).
Exercise: Lila is spry, young, and full of energy. She loves walks, runs, and does excellent on a leash. I think she would best fit in an environment where she would be able to run a few miles a day or have an open fenced area she could run around on all day. She’d be best fit with either an avid runner or a farmer or someone on open land/ranch type of setting.
I cannot give Lila the life she desperately needs and wants. I am looking to rehome her but am not in a rush to do so, I am motivated to find the absolute perfect fit and am willing to travel to make this happen. If you have any questions, resources, or ways you can help me on my mission please contact me. Thank you.
