Athena
Pit Bull Terrier
Meet Athena, a stunning 5-year-old pit bull mix with a sleek black coat and a few adorable white spots. Athena is a sweet and loving dog who thrives on forming close bonds with her humans. While she can be a bit nervous around new people at first, don’t let that fool you—she warms up quickly once she feels safe and comfortable. Athena is playful, affectionate, and loves nothing more than some quality one-on-one time with her favorite people. She’s a ball of energy when it comes to playtime! Whether it’s chasing after her beloved ball or engaging in a game of tug of war, Athena is always up for fun. When she’s not playing, she’s a total cuddle bug who loves to snuggle up next to her humans. What Athena Needs: • A Calm, Patient Home: Athena may take a little time to warm up to new people, so she’d do best in a home with experienced dog owners who can give her the space and patience to adjust. Once she feels comfortable, her true loving personality shines through. • No Young Children: Athena isn’t the best fit for homes with young children, as she prefers a quieter environment and may be overwhelmed by the fast movements and noise of little ones. If you are interested in meeting her, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and text 775-338-6631 or 775-846-3773.
Learn MoreBacardi
Pit Bull Terrier - Irish Setter
Meet Bacardi. She is approximately 5 years old and possibly a pitbull/English pointer mix. Bacardi was rescued from an overcrowded shelter, where she was scared of everyone and everything. She has made tremendous progress, and is coming out of her shell now that she is in a foster home.
Bacardi is a love bug through and through, her favorite activities are couch cuddles, belly rubs, face licking, and long walks where she can sniff and explore. She will stick right by your side and would be wonderful companion to those who love relaxing inside or going on leisurely walks.
Bacardi is still in the process of being crate trained and learning basic commands, though she is house trained. She has made great progress in getting used to being walked on the leash and keeps an even pace.
Bacardi is shy and a bit nervous around other dogs, so she’d do best in a home where she is the only dog or around other mellow dogs that she can meet first. Bacardi does well with kids and people, but would enjoy a home with older children/teenagers as a calmer environment suits her calm demeanor.
If you are interested in meeting her, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and text 775-338-6631.

Declan
German Shepherd Dog
Here is Declan! He has been in our care for over three years, being pulled from a kill shelter on his last day by a WARF volunteer. On arrival at our sanctuary, we discovered that Declan's left eye was completely ruptured and had to be removed due to either bullet or blunt force trauma. We also discovered that he was likely a former guard dog that had been badly trained, resulting in misplaced aggression towards people and animals. Declan started out with only one friend in the world and was aggressive towards everyone, but he is now confident enough to be able to be introduced to new people by his trusted handlers in a slow, controlled environment. In the three years that Declan has been with WARF, he has made slow but steady progress, and we now feel that he is ready to find his special person. He would be an ideal dog for a single woman, as his protective nature really comes through once he has bonded with someone. He would prefer an indoor-outdoor environment, as he likes to roam the perimeter, making sure everything is safe, but needs to be securely contained as he is a big, strong boy and can't be in an environment where he could encounter a person or animal he does not know. Declan has learned to walk nicely alongside other dogs but does not want to share his life, or his people, with other animals. If you are interested in learning more about this incredibly resilient dog, please call/text 775-338-6631. An adoption process for Declan would require a calm but confident person who is willing to commit to multiple get-acquainted visits and a home check, as we want to be sure that he never has to go through abandonment and trauma again.

Luna
Pit Bull Terrier
Meet Luna: A Resilient Canine Companion
Meet Luna, a remarkable pup who has overcome incredible odds. Despite spending a whopping 595 days in the shelter, Luna's spirit remains unbroken. Her journey isn't just about waiting; it's a testament to resilience and the unwavering hope for finding a forever home.
Since being rescued by WARF, Luna has blossomed into a beacon of hope, love, and joy. At just 3 years old, she's already shown incredible adaptability and a zest for life. Luna's story is a reminder of the transformative power of love and patience.
In her foster home, Luna has shown her playful side, eagerly sharing toys and space with her foster brothers. Within the first week, she was already frolicking and playing with them, a testament to her social nature. While Luna adores her foster siblings, her heart truly belongs to her human companion. She craves companionship and thrives on affection, eagerly seeking out cuddles and playtime. Luna's enthusiasm for life is infectious, whether she's playing fetch, engaging in tug-of-war, or simply enjoying a good back scratch. Her playful antics brings joy to every moment.
Luna is currently in the process of learning how to play and interact with other dogs. When meeting new dogs, she tends to be quite intrusive and intense. Additionally, if the other dogs are high-energy, she exhibits herding behavior. Luna seems to do better with calmer, more submissive dogs, especially when the introduction is gradual. However, during walks, she becomes reactive when encountering unfamiliar dogs, pulling, lunging, and barking. Despite these challenges, consistent training and positive reinforcement can contribute to Luna’s improvement.
She has made significant progress in her behavior and demonstrated trustworthiness when left home alone without being crated. She is housebroken and crate trained, although she doesn’t enjoy being in the crate.
As Luna continues to explore her newfound freedom and embrace the joys of being a dog, her journey serves as an inspiration to all who meet her. With love, patience, and understanding, Luna is sure to thrive in her forever home, bringing endless joy and companionship to those lucky enough to welcome her into their lives.
If you are interested in meeting Luna, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and contact the foster at egulini83@hotmail.com or (801) 641-7752.

Learn MoreWill Feral
Tabby - Orange
Will Feral is a three-year-old orange tabby who was caught as part of a feral cat round-up and discovered to be extremely friendly. While in foster care, Will became extremely ill and the vet suspected that he had ingested antifreeze. He survived but has some neurological damage that has left him extremely wobbly and sometimes unable to reach the litter box, although he does keep things as clean as he can by going on a potty pad.
In spite of his difficulties, Will is a loving, sweet cat who starts to purr as soon as someone enters the room. He will need a quiet home where he can life out his life in safety and comfort. Although Will has an outdoor catio attached to his current living space, he prefers to stay indoors and can usually be found curled up on his favorite comfy chair. If you are interested in meeting this little survivor, please call or text 775-338-6631.

He weighs only 75 pounds currently but should probably be closer to around 100 pounds, he eats well and has already gained some weight back.

Doby
Pit Bull Terrier
*** COURTESY LISTING *** PLEASE CALL OR E-MAIL THE PERSON LISTED. DO NOT CONTACT WARF AS WE HAVE NO FURTHER INFO.
Hi! My name is Doby. I am an approximately 2 year old female (spayed) ‘pocket pit’. I am
definitely part Pitbull Terrier, but the veterinarians think that I may also be mixed with a Boston
Terrier. I am only about 40 pounds. I am black with a little bit of brindle and white stockings on
my legs with a white blaze on my face. I think you would agree that I am as cute as a button. I
have big ole pointy ears and that is how I got my name - Doby the House Elf!
I am a very energetic girl and need lots of exercise. I was relinquished to Fairgrounds Animal
Hospital after my housemate and I just could not learn to get along. The prior owner’s
mentioned that the housemate was much more of the aggressor. I do love other dogs myself,
but I definitely get over-stimulated. I can get a bit pushy and do not like to be corrected by other
dogs. I have decided that other female spayed dogs just are not going to be part of my clique.
However; I do love the big silly male Husky that I lived with at my foster home. He was very laid
back and always wanted to play. I do feel that I would do best in a single dog household or can
have a meeting with a laid back larger male dog prior to adoption. I have also been around cats
and just like with dogs I get a little too excited. When I was with my foster mom her cats hissed
at me and even swatted. I was a little confused and would just stare at them, never once did I
try to harm them. However; I am a big pup and with my over-stimulation a household without
cats might be best as well.
My foster mom has been working with me on leash walks. Overall I do well, but just like a
typical terrier sometimes I cannot help myself and will bark and get too excited. We are working
on this, but I do recommend my new home have humans who have had terrier and/or reactive
pitbull experience for continued training. I also feel that I would do best with children over the
age of 12. This is not because I am aggressive with them, simply that I am 40 pounds of
muscle and would be worried that I could accidentally knock over a smaller child. I am so sweet
and it would break my heart if I unintentionally hurt someone.
I really just want to love my people and I am very affectionate. Once I settle in, I will be your best
friend. I will cuddle and make you laugh. I am a bit misunderstood at times, but with the right
family I know I will fit in well. If you are interested in discussing my personality and possible
adoption then please contact Fairgrounds Animal Hospital at 775-329-4106. This clinic is very
busy; therefore, if you do not reach one of our receptionists right away, please leave a message
with your phone number and interest in Doby and we will return your call as soon as possible.
Veda
Belgian Shepherd - Pointer
*** COURTESY LISTING *** PLEASE CALL OR E-MAIL THE PERSON LISTED. DO NOT CONTACT WARF AS WE HAVE NO FURTHER INFO.
This is Veda. She was rescued Veda from a shelter nine months ago. She is three years old. Her vet believes she is Belgium Shepherd and pointer. Veda is an extremely sweet dog, but suffers from severe separation anxiety. Her owner works for the airlines and is not home enough for her so she has a lot of anxiety.
Veda needs a home with either a retired person or someone who is home a majority of the time.
Veda gets along perfectly fine with other dogs and has no problems with cats, kids and people. Veda is housebroken and also knows how to use a doggie door. She is great in the car and loves car rides and is also very good on a leash. Veda needs someone who can be there for her at all times..
Also, Veda loves blankets and cozy up next to you on the couch. Her owner would send her with two dog beds that she loves and her blankets as well as her food and water dishes. Contact Stacy at 775-737-8990.
Zola And Lady
Husky
*** COURTESY LISTING *** PLEASE CALL OR E-MAIL THE PERSON LISTED. DO NOT CONTACT WARF AS WE HAVE NO FURTHER INFO.
Zola and Lady are beautiful dogs that are a bonded pair, they are two spayed females about 3 years old. They can be skittish around new people but begin to warm up slowly. They have never shown any signs of being reactive towards humans, they would much rather run and hide back into their kennels. They are a bonded pair and play very well together.
They are in a shelter in Lathrop, CA. They have taken them to our local hardware store, and they did very well. They do not appear to be animal reactive; they are housed next to other dogs and do not show signs of reactive behavior towards them at all. While out in the yard, they are running free in font of other dogs, and they do not stop to bark or show any signs of wanting to attack. They will walk up to the kennel and do nose to nose then run off. We are not set up to test them with cats, so unfortunately that is an unknown.
They walk very well on a leash; they have walked along side an older Pitbull NM 8 years old that we have but have only been let out to play with one another. When they are separated, they just want to be back together. Lady is okay being alone, Zola does not like life without her sister. They are both UTD on vaccines and flea treatment, we are willing to do a HW test if needed. They are truly an adorable pair.

SAVING LIVES, ONE ANIMAL AT A TIME.
The Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation (WARF) is a small group of volunteers dedicated to rescuing companion animals. We rescue animals that are in imminent danger of euthanasia, usually directly from the euthanasia holding rooms of local shelters.
We have rescued thousands of animals from certain death, but millions more were not so lucky and died--unloved and unwanted--in shelters across the country. We hope that you can help us turn the tide of suffering and death.
We rely on donations to fund emergency medical treatment, spay/neuter, and rescue. Please click here to make a one-time or recurring donation. We and the animals thank you!

Christmas at WARF!
25 years ago, after the death of our beloved Wylie, one of our founders went to the old Reno Animal Control facility to find a dog to foster. She noticed that four of the kennel cards had the corners turned down and asked why... fast forward an hour or so, and a Honda Civic loaded with four very lucky dogs exited the shelter on what was to be their last day on earth. All four dogs were placed in good homes. and a rescue group was born.
