Bailey
German Shepherd Dog
A high kill CA shelter was seeking immediate rescue for this beautiful female German Shepherd mix and she was within one hour of being euthanized. We had to save Bailey and get her surgery to repair her hip. She is a super sweet girl but would do best in a home with no other animals and someone who is home a lot as she has some separation anxiety.
She is a very sweet dog, wants nothing more than to give kisses and get pets, and lay down and feel safe. She is safe and out of the shelter, at our Stagecoach sanctuary... and she is the sweetest!! If you are interested in taking in a wonderful, gentle dog and helping her have a happy future, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and call 775-338-6631 or 775-846-3773.

Declan
German Shepherd Dog
Here is Declan! He has been in our care for over three years, being pulled from a kill shelter on his last day by a WARF volunteer. On arrival at our sanctuary, we discovered that Declan's left eye was completely ruptured and had to be removed due to either bullet or blunt force trauma. We also discovered that he was likely a former guard dog that had been badly trained, resulting in misplaced aggression towards people and animals. Declan started out with only one friend in the world and was aggressive towards everyone, but he is now confident enough to be able to be introduced to new people by his trusted handlers in a slow, controlled environment. In the three years that Declan has been with WARF, he has made slow but steady progress, and we now feel that he is ready to find his special person. He would be an ideal dog for a single woman, as his protective nature really comes through once he has bonded with someone. He would prefer an indoor-outdoor environment, as he likes to roam the perimeter, making sure everything is safe, but needs to be securely contained as he is a big, strong boy and can't be in an environment where he could encounter a person or animal he does not know. Declan has learned to walk nicely alongside other dogs but does not want to share his life, or his people, with other animals. If you are interested in learning more about this incredibly resilient dog, please call/text 775-338-6631. An adoption process for Declan would require a calm but confident person who is willing to commit to multiple get-acquainted visits and a home check, as we want to be sure that he never has to go through abandonment and trauma again.

Lucy Lou
Pit Bull Terrier - Yellow Labrador Retriever
I’m a lotta Girl, 75 pounds — who wants (and gives) a lotta love. Sadly, my owner died and left me an orphan, but his long-time rescue friend took me in. Breed?: Yellow Lab neck down, and Pittie neck up. I have the Lab ‘love water’ (love to swim!) and ‘sniff everywhere’ in me. I am TOTALLY a respectful house guest. I don’t get into anything I shouldn’t. I love the dog door access to the yard, and don’t ever try to escape. And, I am fine home alone. But I sure enjoy my people being around too. Walk in fit in!
Pretty well adjusted if I say so myself. Please have a king size bed because I like to sleep with my person. But if you want me to stay on my bed, I will do your bidding. No problem. Oh, I like to sing with fire engine sirens. You can join in! I like to play with my squeaky toy — or go on short walks (45 min- 1 hour): on trails or downtown! I walk/trot on a leash — at varying speeds (per my Mom’s pace).
I have learned to live compatibly with the resident kitty. My Mom trains me well. : > )). Not so good with other dogs though. I prefer my home to be an ‘only dog’ home. And my Mom makes sure I don’t get into trouble when out and about. She has rules about good manners (and avoidance).
I have congenital stuff going on but I have learned to compensate really well. Mom thinks I am triple jointed!!! : > ))) And the glucosamine MSM etc, good diet, and exercise with my foster Mom, has really strengthened me up and I have no pain. Geez, been managing fine for 5 years, but better now - living the good life. You will be surprised when you see how I can move!! : > )) — and maybe you will learn something about resilience -- and compensating that works!! And gotta love my underbite smile, and black mascara! Beguiling!
I love to tour in the car -- but would appreciate a low riding float boat. My ride used to be a Dodge Charger: I am COOL.
Please give me a chance to charm you! Contact is my foster Mom, Robyn, in Carson City. She will only adopt to local folks and likes to speak with you on the phone, go over your application, and do home visit to see where I would live. She also asks for a donation to WARF — they do such great things for us needy pups. Thank you for reading about me, come meet me! 775-240-5142 phone/text. Robyn.orloff@icloud.com
Luna
Pit Bull Terrier
Meet Luna: A Resilient Canine Companion
Meet Luna, a remarkable pup who has overcome incredible odds. Despite spending a whopping 595 days in the shelter, Luna's spirit remains unbroken. Her journey isn't just about waiting; it's a testament to resilience and the unwavering hope for finding a forever home.
Since being rescued by WARF, Luna has blossomed into a beacon of hope, love, and joy. At just 3 years old, she's already shown incredible adaptability and a zest for life. Luna's story is a reminder of the transformative power of love and patience.
In her foster home, Luna has shown her playful side, eagerly sharing toys and space with her foster brothers. Within the first week, she was already frolicking and playing with them, a testament to her social nature. While Luna adores her foster siblings, her heart truly belongs to her human companion. She craves companionship and thrives on affection, eagerly seeking out cuddles and playtime. Luna's enthusiasm for life is infectious, whether she's playing fetch, engaging in tug-of-war, or simply enjoying a good back scratch. Her playful antics brings joy to every moment.
Luna is currently in the process of learning how to play and interact with other dogs. When meeting new dogs, she tends to be quite intrusive and intense. Additionally, if the other dogs are high-energy, she exhibits herding behavior. Luna seems to do better with calmer, more submissive dogs, especially when the introduction is gradual. However, during walks, she becomes reactive when encountering unfamiliar dogs, pulling, lunging, and barking. Despite these challenges, consistent training and positive reinforcement can contribute to Luna’s improvement.
She has made significant progress in her behavior and demonstrated trustworthiness when left home alone without being crated. She is housebroken and crate trained, although she doesn’t enjoy being in the crate.
As Luna continues to explore her newfound freedom and embrace the joys of being a dog, her journey serves as an inspiration to all who meet her. With love, patience, and understanding, Luna is sure to thrive in her forever home, bringing endless joy and companionship to those lucky enough to welcome her into their lives.
If you are interested in meeting Luna, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and contact the foster at egulini83@hotmail.com or (801) 641-7752.
Mercury
Pit Bull Terrier
Mercury's love for people is as boundless as the universe, and with a slow and patient introduction, he transforms into a true lovebug. His expressive eyes and wagging tail tell the story of a pup eager to connect and create a bond that lasts a lifetime. Once he knows you're a friend, he'll be your most devoted companion, offering endless cuddles and tail-wagging joy. However, Mercury's celestial charm is unique, and he requires a home where he can shine as the solo star. He has shown aggression towards other animals, so a pet-free environment is essential for his happiness and well-being. Mercury thrives when he can be the center of attention, basking in the love and companionship of his human family. Mercury's ideal home is one filled with understanding and a commitment to his need for exclusive affection. A secure and calm environment will allow him to blossom into the affectionate and loyal companion he longs to be. Salty
Catahoula Leopard Dog - German Shepherd Dog
Salty was listed by WARF seven years ago as a courtesy listing for his owners who felt they couldn't keep him anymore. They then took him to the Humane Society without our knowledge, and when we followed up to see if they had had any interest, they told us they had already taken him in. WARF stepped in and got him out of the shelter and into a home. Unfortunately, his owner can no longer keep him, so we are trying to find him a new place as we stand with our animals for life.
Salty is an old dog who needs nothing more than a soft bed to lay on and some affection to make his later years a happy place. He is a very shy dog who will bond strongly given time. He does not like other dogs but does well with cats.
If you are able to provide a safe space and some love and affection to him, he would be happy to provide you the same.
If you are interested, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and call 775-846-3773.
Stacks
Belgian Shepherd Malinois
Introducing Stacks, a Malinois with a heart as courageous as his journey has been. This young pup, once marked by shyness and fear, is now on a transformative path towards confidence and trust-building.

His journey to self-discovery is a testament to the power of patience, kindness, and the human-canine bond. With each passing day, Stacks is gaining confidence, revealing the true spirit that lies beneath his initially timid demeanor.
This Malinois is a prime example of the potential for positive change when provided with a nurturing environment. Stacks is not just a pet; he's a loyal companion in the making. His submissive nature and newfound confidence make him an ideal match for someone willing to continue fostering his growth, understanding that trust is built one small victory at a time.
Stacks is seeking a patient and understanding owner who recognizes the beauty in his journey and is ready to offer the support he needs to fully blossom. If you're someone who values the profound connection that comes from helping a fearful pup find their strength, Stacks is waiting for you with open paws.

Dax
Caucasian Shepherd
*** COURTESY LISTING *** PLEASE CALL OR E-MAIL THE PERSON LISTED. DO NOT CONTACT WARF AS WE HAVE NO FURTHER INFO.
Dax is a gentle-giant with lots of love to give. He needs a new home as the family is moving to an area where it is difficult to find a rental with a large dog. He gets along with other animals, currently lives with cats, but his play with dogs is restricted due to the fact that he has Hip Dysplasia. This is managed by monthly self-administered Adequan injections, daily dasuquin tablet, daily Melaxicam pill, and a joint liquid additive (farnam brand).
Dax has been heavily socialized and loves people. He has never been aggressive toward people and is always eager for attention.
He is good with children, very gentle and kind, but due to his size and excitability/clumsiness it is recemmended that he isn't around really small children.
He is not aggressive towards other dogs, generally just wants to play with them but we restrict play due to his hips. He has lived with cats his entirely life and has gotten along with them.
His ideal environment would be house with a decent sized yard so that he can roam and observe the outdoors daily. An owner(s) that can provide him plenty of attention and a few short daily walks but also prevent over exercising and running to maintain his hips.
If you are interested in Dax please contact Brett at brent.turner25@gmail.com or 810-627-3018. Rehoming fee is $350.
Doby
Pit Bull Terrier
*** COURTESY LISTING *** PLEASE CALL OR E-MAIL THE PERSON LISTED. DO NOT CONTACT WARF AS WE HAVE NO FURTHER INFO.
Hi! My name is Doby. I am an approximately 2 year old female (spayed) ‘pocket pit’. I am
definitely part Pitbull Terrier, but the veterinarians think that I may also be mixed with a Boston
Terrier. I am only about 40 pounds. I am black with a little bit of brindle and white stockings on
my legs with a white blaze on my face. I think you would agree that I am as cute as a button. I
have big ole pointy ears and that is how I got my name - Doby the House Elf!
I am a very energetic girl and need lots of exercise. I was relinquished to Fairgrounds Animal
Hospital after my housemate and I just could not learn to get along. The prior owner’s
mentioned that the housemate was much more of the aggressor. I do love other dogs myself,
but I definitely get over-stimulated. I can get a bit pushy and do not like to be corrected by other
dogs. I have decided that other female spayed dogs just are not going to be part of my clique.
However; I do love the big silly male Husky that I lived with at my foster home. He was very laid
back and always wanted to play. I do feel that I would do best in a single dog household or can
have a meeting with a laid back larger male dog prior to adoption. I have also been around cats
and just like with dogs I get a little too excited. When I was with my foster mom her cats hissed
at me and even swatted. I was a little confused and would just stare at them, never once did I
try to harm them. However; I am a big pup and with my over-stimulation a household without
cats might be best as well.
My foster mom has been working with me on leash walks. Overall I do well, but just like a
typical terrier sometimes I cannot help myself and will bark and get too excited. We are working
on this, but I do recommend my new home have humans who have had terrier and/or reactive
pitbull experience for continued training. I also feel that I would do best with children over the
age of 12. This is not because I am aggressive with them, simply that I am 40 pounds of
muscle and would be worried that I could accidentally knock over a smaller child. I am so sweet
and it would break my heart if I unintentionally hurt someone.
I really just want to love my people and I am very affectionate. Once I settle in, I will be your best
friend. I will cuddle and make you laugh. I am a bit misunderstood at times, but with the right
family I know I will fit in well. If you are interested in discussing my personality and possible
adoption then please contact Fairgrounds Animal Hospital at 775-329-4106. This clinic is very
busy; therefore, if you do not reach one of our receptionists right away, please leave a message
with your phone number and interest in Doby and we will return your call as soon as possible.
Luna
American Bulldog - Terrier
*** COURTESY LISTING *** PLEASE CALL OR E-MAIL THE PERSON LISTED. DO NOT CONTACT WARF AS WE HAVE NO FURTHER INFO.
It is with a heavy heart we need to re-home our rescue dog after 7 years.
Luna is a deaf white bulldog/terrier mix. She has attacked our Golden several times over the last 6 years as well as our daughter’s dogs mostly over food but also for reasons we aren’t sure of.
We have worked with various trainers and behaviorists, used tie downs, gates or crates but sadly fights still happen. And now with grandkids in the picture we can’t take any chances of a dog fight breaking out near them. She has never shown aggression to a person.
Luna would do best in a house with no animals. She is trained on an e-collar and returns immediately. She can do off leash hikes and usually stays close to her person. Conversely she walks decently well on leash but will stare down dogs so I always cross the street. In a perfect situation she is with someone who works from home as she gets separation anxiety. She likes to be in the same room with her owner and sleeps on the bed close to you. I don’t recommend people bring other dogs in her house as she resource guards.
We will want to work with her new owner/s at length to make sure they understand her and the situation is right. If you are looking for a buddy and lead a quiet life Luna may be the dog to enhance your home more than you can imagine. She is an amazing dog.
If you are interested in Luna, please contact Jane at 925-989-0373 or janeellerbeck@gmail.com.
Suki
Great Pyrenees
*** COURTESY LISTING *** PLEASE CALL OR E-MAIL THE PERSON LISTED. DO NOT CONTACT WARF AS WE HAVE NO FURTHER INFO.
Suki, is a drop dead, beautiful 4-year-old Great Pyrenees dog who was rescued from a high-kill shelter earlier this year. She was adopted but was recently returned due to her protective/guardian temperament and insufficient outlets to accommodate her working-dog needs. She displays a strong livestock/guardian temperament. Suki is a loving, happy, wonderful dog who needs a family to protect and a job on a farm, ranch or somewhere in the country with space to run. She is spayed, UTD on vaccines and microchipped. She also does fine with other dogs, is good with cats, rides great in the car, walks great on a leash and is potty and crate trained.
Suki was pulled from Kern County by Jelly's Place in the 11th hour before she was to be euthanized. She had been abandoned in an orchard. She was adopted by a family with 2 young kids and a very chaotic lifestyle. She had a very hard time with that. She loved the parents and one of the kids. But, the 5-year-old child made her very nervous and she was very uneasy with the nanny who came in daily. She started guarding and snapping at the nanny and the little boy, so they had to return her. She is fine with the people she knows, but is very protective of her space and her humans. She has bonded with one of the rescue staff members at Jelly's and is incredibly affectionate and loving. She would probably be fine with older children.
IMO, she would do best on a farm or ranch with one family that knows the breed and with whom she can bond. She would make a great guard dog and a loving family dog.

SAVING LIVES, ONE ANIMAL AT A TIME.
The Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation (WARF) is a small group of volunteers dedicated to rescuing companion animals. We rescue animals that are in imminent danger of euthanasia, usually directly from the euthanasia holding rooms of local shelters.
We have rescued thousands of animals from certain death, but millions more were not so lucky and died--unloved and unwanted--in shelters across the country. We hope that you can help us turn the tide of suffering and death.
We rely on donations to fund emergency medical treatment, spay/neuter, and rescue. Please click here to make a one-time or recurring donation. We and the animals thank you!

25 years ago, after the death of our beloved Wylie, one of our founders went to the old Reno Animal Control facility to find a dog to foster. She noticed that four of the kennel cards had the corners turned down and asked why... fast forward an hour or so, and a Honda Civic loaded with four very lucky dogs exited the shelter on what was to be their last day on earth. All four dogs were placed in good homes. and a rescue group was born.
