Athena
Pit Bull Terrier - Chocolate Labrador Retriever
Meet Athena, a stunning 5-year-old lab/pit bull mix with a sleek brown coat and a few adorable white spots. Athena is a sweet and loving dog who thrives on forming close bonds with her humans. While she can be a bit nervous around new people at first, don’t let that fool you—she warms up quickly once she feels safe and comfortable. Athena is playful, affectionate, and loves nothing more than some quality one-on-one time with her favorite people.
She’s a ball of energy when it comes to playtime! Whether it’s chasing after her beloved ball or engaging in a game of tug of war, Athena is always up for fun. When she’s not playing, she’s a total cuddle bug who loves to snuggle up next to her humans.
What Athena Needs:
• A Calm, Patient Home: Athena may take a little time to warm up to new people, so she’d do best in a home with experienced dog owners who can give her the space and patience to adjust. Once she feels comfortable, her true loving personality shines through.
• No Young Children: Athena isn’t the best fit for homes with young children, as she prefers a quieter environment and may be overwhelmed by the fast movements and noise of little ones.
If you are interested in meeting her, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and text 775-338-6631 or 775-846-3773.

Bacardi
Pit Bull Terrier - Irish Setter
Meet Bacardi. She is approximately 5 years old and possibly a pitbull/English pointer mix. Bacardi was rescued from an overcrowded shelter, where she was scared of everyone and everything. She has made tremendous progress, and is coming out of her shell now that she is in a foster home.
Bacardi is a love bug through and through, her favorite activities are couch cuddles, belly rubs, face licking, and long walks where she can sniff and explore. She will stick right by your side and would be wonderful companion to those who love relaxing inside or going on leisurely walks.
Bacardi is still in the process of being crate trained and learning basic commands, though she is house trained. She has made great progress in getting used to being walked on the leash and keeps an even pace.
Bacardi is shy and a bit nervous around other dogs, so she’d do best in a home where she is the only dog or around other mellow dogs that she can meet first. Bacardi does well with kids and people, but would enjoy a home with older children/teenagers as a calmer environment suits her calm demeanor.
If you are interested in meeting her, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and text 775-338-6631.

Declan
German Shepherd Dog
Here is Declan! He has been in our care for over three years, being pulled from a kill shelter on his last day by a WARF volunteer. On arrival at our sanctuary, we discovered that Declan's left eye was completely ruptured and had to be removed due to either bullet or blunt force trauma. We also discovered that he was likely a former guard dog that had been badly trained, resulting in misplaced aggression towards people and animals. Declan started out with only one friend in the world and was aggressive towards everyone, but he is now confident enough to be able to be introduced to new people by his trusted handlers in a slow, controlled environment. In the three years that Declan has been with WARF, he has made slow but steady progress, and we now feel that he is ready to find his special person. He would be an ideal dog for a single woman, as his protective nature really comes through once he has bonded with someone. He would prefer an indoor-outdoor environment, as he likes to roam the perimeter, making sure everything is safe, but needs to be securely contained as he is a big, strong boy and can't be in an environment where he could encounter a person or animal he does not know. Declan has learned to walk nicely alongside other dogs but does not want to share his life, or his people, with other animals. If you are interested in learning more about this incredibly resilient dog, please call/text 775-338-6631. An adoption process for Declan would require a calm but confident person who is willing to commit to multiple get-acquainted visits and a home check, as we want to be sure that he never has to go through abandonment and trauma again.

Luna
Pit Bull Terrier
Meet Luna: A Resilient and Devoted Companion
Luna’s journey is one of perseverance, hope, and transformation. After spending 595 days in a shelter, she never lost her spirit—she simply waited for the right chance to shine. Since being rescued by WARF, Luna has blossomed into a playful, affectionate, and deeply loyal companion. At just 3 years old, she’s eager to embrace life with boundless enthusiasm and love.
A Playful Heart with a Loyal Soul
Luna thrives in her foster home, where she has learned the joys of companionship. She adores her foster siblings, quickly forming bonds and engaging in playful antics. While she enjoys the company of other dogs, her heart truly belongs to her human—she craves affection, thrives on interaction, and is happiest when by your side. Whether it’s fetch, tug-of-war, or a good belly rub, Luna’s zest for life is infectious.
Learning, Growing, and Ready for Love
Luna is still refining her social skills with other dogs. She can be intense and intrusive when meeting new canine friends, especially high-energy ones, but she does well with calmer, more submissive dogs when introduced gradually. On walks, she may react to unfamiliar dogs by pulling, lunging, or barking, but with consistent training and positive reinforcement, she continues to improve.
At home, Luna is housebroken and crate-trained, though she prefers not to be crated. She’s trustworthy when left alone, especially with access to a dog door. She knows basic commands, walks well on a leash, and is working on curbing her excitement-driven jumping—though if you’ve been gone for a while, expect an enthusiastic welcome!
Smart, Strong-Willed, and Full of Love
Luna is highly intelligent and treat-motivated, but she also has a stubborn streak—a reminder that she’s a dog with personality! She enjoys playing with other dogs but is obsessed with people, always wanting to be close. Her affectionate nature can be a little intrusive, but it’s simply her way of showing love.
Luna has spent the last year in foster care, learning how to be a dog, and she’s ready to find her forever home. With patience, love, and understanding, she will thrive, bringing endless joy and companionship to the lucky person who welcomes her into their life.
If you are interested in Luna, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and contact Erin at 801-641-7752.

Will Feral
Tabby - Orange
Will Feral is a three-year-old orange tabby who was caught as part of a feral cat round-up and discovered to be extremely friendly. While in foster care, Will became extremely ill and the vet suspected that he had ingested antifreeze. He survived but has some neurological damage that has left him extremely wobbly and sometimes unable to reach the litter box, although he does keep things as clean as he can by going on a potty pad.
In spite of his difficulties, Will is a loving, sweet cat who starts to purr as soon as someone enters the room. He will need a quiet home where he can life out his life in safety and comfort. Although Will has an outdoor catio attached to his current living space, he prefers to stay indoors and can usually be found curled up on his favorite comfy chair. If you are interested in meeting this little survivor, please call or text 775-338-6631.

Winston
German Shepherd Dog
Winston is a senior White German Shepherd mix who was saved from death row at the last minute after being found abandoned and emaciated along a creek bed in Sacramento. He has had severe ear infections in both ears, likely for years, which went untreated and one eardrum has ruptured, which is being treated medically and will require surgery. Winston will not be available until after his surgery which is at the end of February. He will be reevaluated a few weeks after that to see if the other ear will need surgery or not. Winston is almost completely deaf as a result of his chronic ear disease and the surgical treatment that he now requires.
Winston thrives on the company of other dogs. He is great in the car, gets along with cats and dogs of all sizes, walks nicely on a leash, and is just a gentle giant in spite of what was probably a lifetime of neglect. He weighs about 95 pounds now as he has already gained most of his weight back.
If you are interested in meeting Winston, please fill out an application at www.tahoewarf.org and text 775-338-6631 or 775-846-3773.

Doby
Pit Bull Terrier
*** COURTESY LISTING *** PLEASE CALL OR E-MAIL THE PERSON LISTED. DO NOT CONTACT WARF AS WE HAVE NO FURTHER INFO.
Hi! My name is Doby. I am an approximately 2 year old female (spayed) ‘pocket pit’. I am
definitely part Pitbull Terrier, but the veterinarians think that I may also be mixed with a Boston
Terrier. I am only about 40 pounds. I am black with a little bit of brindle and white stockings on
my legs with a white blaze on my face. I think you would agree that I am as cute as a button. I
have big ole pointy ears and that is how I got my name - Doby the House Elf!
I am a very energetic girl and need lots of exercise. I was relinquished to Fairgrounds Animal
Hospital after my housemate and I just could not learn to get along. The prior owner’s
mentioned that the housemate was much more of the aggressor. I do love other dogs myself,
but I definitely get over-stimulated. I can get a bit pushy and do not like to be corrected by other
dogs. I have decided that other female spayed dogs just are not going to be part of my clique.
However; I do love the big silly male Husky that I lived with at my foster home. He was very laid
back and always wanted to play. I do feel that I would do best in a single dog household or can
have a meeting with a laid back larger male dog prior to adoption. I have also been around cats
and just like with dogs I get a little too excited. When I was with my foster mom her cats hissed
at me and even swatted. I was a little confused and would just stare at them, never once did I
try to harm them. However; I am a big pup and with my over-stimulation a household without
cats might be best as well.
My foster mom has been working with me on leash walks. Overall I do well, but just like a
typical terrier sometimes I cannot help myself and will bark and get too excited. We are working
on this, but I do recommend my new home have humans who have had terrier and/or reactive
pitbull experience for continued training. I also feel that I would do best with children over the
age of 12. This is not because I am aggressive with them, simply that I am 40 pounds of
muscle and would be worried that I could accidentally knock over a smaller child. I am so sweet
and it would break my heart if I unintentionally hurt someone.
I really just want to love my people and I am very affectionate. Once I settle in, I will be your best
friend. I will cuddle and make you laugh. I am a bit misunderstood at times, but with the right
family I know I will fit in well. If you are interested in discussing my personality and possible
adoption then please contact Fairgrounds Animal Hospital at 775-329-4106. This clinic is very
busy; therefore, if you do not reach one of our receptionists right away, please leave a message
with your phone number and interest in Doby and we will return your call as soon as possible.

Ella
English Pointer
*** COURTESY LISTING *** PLEASE CALL OR E-MAIL THE PERSON LISTED. DO NOT CONTACT WARF AS WE HAVE NO FURTHER INFO.
Ella is an eight year old English Pointer. She would be great for a person that is experienced with the breed and just wants a companion. She is low maintenance and sleeps a lot, likes walks and car rides. She is very gentle and intelligent. She is house trained, barks no more than twice when someone is at the door.
Ella is experienced with bird hunting and would enjoy the occasional opportunity, but at the same time she has always loved all types of domesticated animals and people, and is super gentle and calm. She is a perfect dog for a family that might hunt a little too.
Ella would prefer a quiet home vs lots of commotion — so older kids best. She would love a canine companion.
She is house-trained, crate trained, travels great in car (or side by side!). Ella is good in dog park and good out in open with family as you can see
If you are interested in Ella, please contat Robyn at robyn.orloff@icloud.com or 775-240-5142.

Johnny is a short-haired husky. He was thrown out into the street with a female and a litter of four puppies. A good samaritan cared for them on her way to and from work and finally a rescue took them in.
The puppies have since found homes and the rescue, Paw Mission, assisted with all of their medical, boarding and transfer to a safe place.
He is need of a home with no cacts, although he is great with all people. He is crate trained and house broken. A $100 re-homing fee is requested.
If you are interested, please contact April at Red Dog Ranch, 406-270-3903.

SAVING LIVES, ONE ANIMAL AT A TIME.
The Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation (WARF) is a small group of volunteers dedicated to rescuing companion animals. We rescue animals that are in imminent danger of euthanasia, usually directly from the euthanasia holding rooms of local shelters.
We have rescued thousands of animals from certain death, but millions more were not so lucky and died--unloved and unwanted--in shelters across the country. We hope that you can help us turn the tide of suffering and death.
We rely on donations to fund emergency medical treatment, spay/neuter, and rescue. Please click here to make a one-time or recurring donation. We and the animals thank you!

Christmas at WARF!
25 years ago, after the death of our beloved Wylie, one of our founders went to the old Reno Animal Control facility to find a dog to foster. She noticed that four of the kennel cards had the corners turned down and asked why... fast forward an hour or so, and a Honda Civic loaded with four very lucky dogs exited the shelter on what was to be their last day on earth. All four dogs were placed in good homes. and a rescue group was born.
