This beautiful 68 pound spayed female shepherd was rescued from a California animal shelter. Ashlyn is approximately four years old, is current on her vaccines and is on heartworm prevention medication. She is a very agile and active dog. She loved playing with her Shepherd foster brother until he got adopted; now she's lonely and wants a playmate! Ashlyn would do best with a large male dog who is able to handle her exuberant play style. She is very playful and loves to chase balls and frisbees--and of course she loves her squeaky toys! She is crate trained, housebroken and good on a leash. She has also completed Obedience l and ll classes. She is very smart and loves to please her human(s) and also bonds very quickly to her person/people. She is very protective of her home. Babygirl

Her name might be Babygirl, but this sweet (approximately) one year old has survived more than most dogs do in a lifetime--certainly more than any dog should have to. In early June, Babygirl was found and taken in by a Good Samaritan in Vallejo, CA. She was emaciated and was dragging a badly broken leg behind her. Despite being in terrible pain, Baby's sweet, trusting, affectionate and resilient spirit shined through. Unfortunately, Babygirl's broken leg had tried to heal itself, improperly, and some lasting damage had been done. After multiple orthopedic consultations with various veterinarians, it was determined the best course of action was to amputate her back left leg. Surgery took place on July 22 and Sweet Babygirl came through with flying colors. She is currently learning to navigate life with three legs and is absolutely thriving. She is now at a healthy weight, has been spayed and is current on all vaccinations. She is a bundle of sweet energy and loves other dogs; she adores her foster siblings! She has not been around children, but, especially as she is a young, friendly dog, her foster mama believes she would be great with kids. Her breed is truly a mystery--some think she has some Doberman in her, others believe she looks like a Catahoula. These breeds are listed in her description but are truly just guesses. She is currently in a loving foster placement, but her foster mama has four of her own dogs and cannot keep Babygirl long-term. Sweet Cinder was born in care at the end of May 2026. Her Mama came to WARF very pregnant just weeks earlier. Cinder's and her siblings' births were quite difficult (four of her siblings did not survive). Needless to say, Cinder and her sisters are strong and resilient little creatures. Cowboy

Cowboy is a sweet boy who was on the red list at a county shelter and we could not let that happen. He knows several commands and learns quickly with positive reinforcement and treats. He may occasionally jump up when excited but is learning to keep his paws on the ground. Cowboy is a love at home who is always ready for a belly rub, and would also enjoy having a doggie play friend to play with. He can be a little intimidated when first meeting new people and dogs so a slow/mindful introduction is helpful, but he warms up quickly. He loves his toys and will often carry them around the yard. Here is Declan! He has been in our care since August 2020, having been pulled from a kill shelter on his last day by a WARF volunteer. On arrival at our sanctuary, we discovered that Declan's left eye was completely ruptured and had to be removed due to either bullet or blunt force trauma. Declan was shut down and fearful of new people when he arrived, but he is now confident enough to make friends in the wide, wide world. In the six years that Declan has been with WARF, he has made slow but steady progress, and we now feel that he is ready to find his special person. He would be an ideal dog for a single woman, as his protective nature really comes through once he has bonded with someone. He would prefer an indoor-outdoor environment, as he likes to roam the perimeter, making sure everything is safe. Declan has learned to walk nicely alongside other dogs but does not want to share his life, or his people, with other animals. Freckles is a distinguished gentleman (ablue 5-6) blue pittie with the most unforgettable honey-colored eyes — the kind that seem to look right through you and quietly ask to be loved. Meet Griff, an approximately 5y.o. neutered German Shepherd-Pit mix up to date on vaccines who is looking for a home. Unfortunately we have seen a lot of unexpected changes in our lives recently surrounding work and a serious injury with surgeries looming, and it’s become difficult to give him his best life. He’s happy and healthy, gets exercise and walks and visits with friends, cuddles on the sofa, and his needs are met- but we just can’t give him the 100% we were able to before our lives changed. Griff had been abandoned overnight at a construction site in 2021 where the owner was working. Someone left him tied up in freezing temperatures with a bark collar on, unneutered and unchipped at the time. Police and Animal Control never found the culprits. He is a sweet, energetic, loyal, alert, and very intelligent dog who loves his human and canine friends. He loves to go on hikes, backpacking, trail runs, follow you on a bike, chase a ball, perform his many tricks, and is eager to learn and train. He’s great at home and snoozes on the couch when we’re gone, and is crate trained and great on leash. That said, he’s a complicated dog. Not long after we took him in we started to see significant behavioral quirks. Whatever past trauma or lack of socialization he had likely led to his reactivity with new people and new dogs. Griff had a lot of success working with a great dog trainer and has gained confidence and a sense of safety out in the world since then. Nonetheless he struggles to meet new dogs and new people in the way that most dogs do. With a structured routine he is able to safely meet others and welcome them into his life and be friends, and he’s loved living with other dogs we’ve fostered. What he can’t safely do is suddenly meet other dogs while he or they are off leash, and strangers can’t come right up to him and pet him; he needs to feel safe and calm before engaging. There have never been any serious altercations but we are diligent to avoid any situation that could lead to trouble. We are hoping to find someone looking for a new canine companion who can provide a structured, engaging life for this handsome dog. With these things in mind, this new family should be reactive-dog savvy and live an active lifestyle. We don’t think he’s a great fit for a home with children or cats. Poor Mira was picked up as a stray in the Central Valley. On arrival at the shelter, she was emaciated and was noted to be diabetic. Mira immediately went on the euthanasia list, as the shelter does not have the resources to treat conditions like diabetes, and she was in poor condition already. Thankfully, a volunteer who has previously had diabetic animals saw the post, and Mira is now safely in foster care receiving the treatment that she needs. She is almost totally blind but bravely navigates new environments, trusting in her people to keep her safe. She gets along with other dogs and is learning about cats. Mira is a smart, happy dog who loves attention and thinks that she is a lap dog. Sweet Mama Ollie was found under a bridge in Yerington in April 2026 and brought to the WARF sanctuary. It was soon discovered this young girl had several kittens on-board. The delivery was traumatic and Ollie ended up having an emergency C-section. Unfortunately, some of her babies didn't make it, but Ollie jumped right into Mama mode and has been nurturing her surviving babies for the last many weeks. Reba came to us just in the nick of time and she as her nine(!) puppies were about to be euthanized at a high kill CA shelter. She was in very bad shape with underlying allergies causing her major skin problems, skin tumors and a shrunken, blind eye. But she was the best mama ever and now that her puppies have found homes, she would love to find one as well. Reba’s very sweet & tender. She is not very confident & can seem timid. Reba loves to play & be with kids. She's good with cats although curious & wants to be playful. She hasn’t been socialized as much so can be reactive to sounds & unsure of her surroundings, other dogs & visitors but mostly wants to play, bark or cower. Reba’s working on all the above. Shes a 5-6 yr old dog with the approach to life of a 2yr old pup. She has a kind heart and is looking for a family who is willing to give her their time, attention & a chance to earn her trust. She does well in a kennel for bedtime & short stints although not good for her socialization to kennel too much. She is a two year old, 38-lb rescue from Riverside County shelter looking for her forever home> She has beautiful fur, gorgeous, and the sweetest swagger. Her tail wags about 95% of the day! Sadie is incredibly sweet, loving, and affectionate. She's the best off-leash dog ever-extremely obedient outdoors, stays close, and will not run away. She has little to no prey drive and is an amazing hiking partner who can easily go 12+ miles. She’s equally happy playing with toys or lounging at home. She’s house-trained and LOVES to snuggle—if you let her, she’ll even spoon you all night! ❤️ Sadie should not live with children. She generally does well with other dogs but struggles with alpha/confident female dogs. Sammy AKA Panda

Sammy came to use from Texas where his owner wanted to euthanize him due to a positive FIV test. FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) is a retrovirus that many cats carry, and it is absolutely not a death sentence. After initial infection, many cats remain asymptomatic for the remainder of their lives. FIV is not transmissible to humans, and cats with a positive FIV result are often housed with other cats who do not have the virus, as transmission occurs only through deep bites (NOT grooming, sharing bowls or water, shared litterboxes, etc.). Meet Sterling 💙 Sterling is a handsome adult blue Pit Bull with a gentle heart that's just waiting for the right person to help it shine. While the sanctuary can feel a little overwhelming for him at times, once outside his kennel Sterling blossoms into a bright happy boy who loves meeting everyone he comes across. This sweet boy is both kid-friendly and dog-friendly, making him a wonderful companion for the right family. Willow has an eye condition called Pannus, which requires daily eye drops to help keep her eyes healthy.
